Quick Tips and Tidbits

Here are some quick tips and tidbits to make your life easier!

*Tired of waiting for the bathroom mirrors to clear before you can apply make up or shave after a shower? Just take a small amount of shaving cream (use the cheap stuff) and apply to any bathroom mirror. Buff off with a clean cloth. The next time you step out of a steamy shower, you can see yourself right away...no more foggy mirrors.

*Black scuff marks getting the best of you on that beautiful white floor? Take a tennis ball, cut a small slit in it, and insert a cut off broom handle or paint roller stick. When the scuffs appear, you can rub them away with the tennis ball...and you won't even have to get down on your hands and knees.

*One of the most time-consuming household chores is defrosting the chest freezer. The next time you defrost, before plugging the unit back in, spray a small amount of cooking oil spray on the freezer walls. The ice will form more slowly and when you do need to defrost it will just slide right off.

*Baked or burnt on food comes right off those pots and pans when you run a small bit of water in the bottom, sprinkle baking soda, and let sit overnight. The food will wipe right out the next morning.

*Keep the need to dust to a minimum when you wipe your furniture down with a Bounce dryer sheet. The sheets have antistatic agents that make dust particles run and hide.

*Do you find that your beautiful clothes lose their vibrant colors after just a few washings? When you bring those new duds home, wash in vinegar to make those colors last. Turn all garments inside out, then wash with a half cup of vinegar in the wash water instead of soap. This will set the color and give new life to your wardrobe for many years to come.

*Copper pots turning green? Cut a lemon in half, dip in baking soda and scrub the surface to remove all traces of discoloration.

*Brown sugar that is opened tends to harden almost right before your eyes. To soften it again, place the sugar in a ziploc bag with a fresh slice of bread. In a day or two the sugar will be as soft as the day it was first opened.

*Scratches on your new CD? A dab of toothpaste rubbed on the surface, then polished off with a clean cloth will make the CD sing like new. Works on window glass, too.

*Use cold water when running your garbage disposal. Too often the garbage disposal is run with hot water, but the food starts to exit the unit, then gets into the cooled part of the drain and sets back up causing a bigger problem. It's better to start out with cold, and stay cold so all food particles will run right through.

*Squirrels eating all the birdseed before your feathered friends can get a little bite for themselves? Add cayenne pepper to the mix...birds don't mind it, but it will drive the squirrels nuts.

*Nasty ink stain on your favorite blouse? Spray with a little hairspray then wash. The ink will come right out with one or two applications.
